BUFFALO GAL by A.R. Gurney. Barbara Link LaRou stars as Amanda, a Hollywood actress who recently returned to her hometown of Buffalo to revive her stage career as Madame Ranevskaya in Chekov’s The Cherry Orchard. She soon realizes that her beloved Buffalo, like her own life, has changed in unimaginable ways.
BUFFALO GALwas first produced at Williamstown Theater Festival and then went up in Buffalo at Studio Arena in 2002. After some revamping of the play by the playwright, it was produced again at Primary Stages staring Susan Sullivan as Amanda. This updated up version received a great deal of positive feedback from New York critics.
A.R. Gurney is a Buffalo native and graduate of both Williams College and Yale School of Drama. His more well-known works include The Dining Room, The Cocktail Hour, Love Letters, and Sweet Sue. He is now an active member of Theatre Hall of Fame and of the American Academy of Arts and Letters. He and his wife of fifty years currently reside in Roxbury, CT and New York City.
