A series of exploratory "Soundpainting" performance-workshops inspired by the work of Dr. Daniel Schreber, whose 1903 memoirs document a bizarre collapse into paranoia, THE DEVIL'S CASTLE used voices and gestures
to evoke the legend of Cassandra, the prophetess whom
no one believed, and Scherber, who believed himself to
be the wife of God.
Inspired by the Dadaists, Surrealists, and the great theatre artist Antonin Artaud, "Soundpainting" is the live sign language created by famed composer Walter Thompson. Under the direction of creator-conductor Christian
Brandjes, the Buffalo Soundpainting Ensemble is the
most innovative theatre company in the city.
